The Scarf Problem

I have a problem with scarves.  I start out strong, excited about the pattern.  I knit feverishly for a few pattern repeats.  Then I’m done.  My lust for new territory craft territory is satisfied, and I have no desire to finish.  Some examples now hibernating on the needles:

Linen Stitch Scarf #3 – This is definitely my favorite colorway.

I thought these would be quick knits and good Christmas gifts.  In my enthusiasm, I bought alot of inexpensive variegated yarn and started too many projects.  I lost interest.

Mistake Rib Scarf – Very, very ugly and itchy.  I wanted to use up the yarn.

Norwegian Fir Lace Scarf.  This one is really pretty, and I do want to finish it.  But I have trouble remembering the pattern.

And again last night, the scarf bug took hold and I started a new one.  See, I have a tempting skein of mystery yarn that’s been sitting in my basket:

And I have a pattern I’ve been wanting to try: The Simple Ascot from Knit Ponchos, Wraps and Scarves by Jane Davis.  My mom made one out of Patons SWS and it turned out really pretty.  So I cast on last night while we watched American Idol.  Here are the first few rows:

So we’ll see how it goes.  Maybe I’ll get a yard or so done this time.

Drops Bag

Crochet BagOriginally uploaded by youthpastorswife

I’ve been working on the DROPS Crochet Bag pattern I found on Ravelry to use up this weird ball of Aunt Lydia’s Double Strand. I’m using a smaller hook than the pattern requires, mostly because I didn’t want to run out and buy a new hook. I also modified the pattern slightly. After crocheting a few rows of the pattern as written, I decided there was too much excess created by the “tr, ch1, tr” part in the rows between those with the 7 tr groups. So I substituted dc for those tr and I like the way it looks much better. You can see some pictures of the before and after on my Ravelry page. I also added a row of sc to the bottom because I didn’t like the way the 7 tr groups stretched out the foundation chain.

Weird

So when I registered with WordPress, they said unwound.wordpress.com wasn’t available.  So I picked the less-loved unwoundyarn.wordpress.com.  So then I started thinking, “I wonder who has unwound.blahblahblah.  Wouldn’t it be fun to check their blog out?  When I typed it into my browser, a page came up saying I could own this blog name!  So I took it, deleted the unwoundyarn.  And this is my permanent home.

Hi there.

I am a serial starter. This marks the third fourth sixth tenth blog I’ve started. I have three blogs going right now. I’m determined that these will be The Three. They all serve different purposes, you see. I have a family website to share pictures and things with our far-away family. I have a blog devoted to my peculiar life as a youth minister’s wife. And now, I have a blog devoted entirely to yarn. You see, my yarn exploits have been sidenotes on other blogs: “Oh yeah, by the way, I know none of you care…but I finally finished something!”

Some goals I have:

  • Finally stitch together the Eight Pocket Tote.
  • Finish seaming the cute bunny I knitted nearly a year ago.
  • Finish at least one of the Linen Stitch Scarves
  • Finish the Ruffle Edge Scarf.
Then I can finally buy some new yarn and get to work on my Ravelry queue.
I am a Ravelry addict. I wasted spent two whole hours last night looking at nothing but new projects and dreaming…
My hands are itching for new yarn.
